The Sex Party has made Australian election history, launching the first Android app to provide electoral material to the digital community.

“We’re very interested in how modern technology is affecting the way information is shared,” said Andrew Patterson, who is contesting the seat of Sydney as an Independent endorsed by the Sex Party.  “Our Android app is an experiment in how mobile devices can be used to distribute election information.”

The app serves as a digital flyer for the Sex Party that Android phone users can download and distribute to their friends.  It includes policy information and talking points, recommended ‘How to Vote’ information, and polling booth locations.

“The Sex Party is very interested in the online component of our lives,” explained Mr Patterson.  “We want to protect people’s rights online by opposing mandatory retention of browsing history and government internet censorship.  Gamers know we’re the party for them due to our activism calling for an R18 rating for video games.

“Just as we speak on behalf of many in the online world, we’re engaging with digital communities in new ways.  The 2010 federal election wasn’t quite the ‘twitter election’ many thought it would be, but there is no doubt that the future of politics lies in social media.”

"An Android app is an interactive program which operates on 'smart' phones, similar to an iPhone app but for an alternate operating system. Android is the smart phone operating system that is increasingly the system of choice for tech-heads."
